About Janette Souliere

Born in Japan in 1965, Janette Souliere is a contemporary Eurasian painter & sculptor whose art bridges millennia old Eastern traditions with bold Western abstraction. Her early training in classical Chinese & Japanese calligraphy laid a foundation of discipline & precision, first refined under the tutelage of her mother & the Japanese ambassador to Taiwan, Saida Shin’ichi, whose mastery of extremely fine detail brush painting shaped her sensitivity to nuance & form. This foundation was elevated through guidance from Madame Chiang Kai-shek whose command of brushwork & artistic philosophy deeply influenced her gesture & meaning. Her practice was further transformed in Taiwan under mentorship from a retired Chinese general whose sweeping grand brush strokes instilled the explosive yet meditative power that defines her visual language.

Souliere’s artistic vocabulary draws from masters of modern abstraction: Frank Stella’s structural rigor, Larry Poons’ gestural cascades, Agnes Martin’s serene minimalism, David Hockney’s explorations of space & color & Mark Rothko’s spiritual use of the color field. Yet her work remains deeply personal, enriched by her father’s friendship with Japanese modernist Waichi Tsutaka whose poetic abstraction infused her rhythm & abstraction. Her sculptural practice, inspired in part by encounters with Italo Scanga, spans bold welded steel statements to delicate intimate forms, each revealing a tension between strength & vulnerability. Her canvases erupt with fluid movement & radiant energy, often described as “transcultural dialogues” where East meets West. By merging calligraphic traditions with abstract expressionism she creates works that transcend cultural boundaries & speak a universal language of passion, motion & interconnectedness.

Souliere’s life experiences across Asia, the South Pacific islands & Europe shaped her philosophy of art as a symbiotic relationship between ancient wisdom & contemporary innovation. This unique perspective has propelled her to international recognition with prestigious exhibitions in leading galleries & institutions worldwide.

In parallel with her traditional practice, Souliere has emerged as an AI visionary creative artist, exploring how artificial intelligence can extend human imagination & reframe the future of visual expression. She also teaches AI engineering to youth & university students, both locally & across U.S. territories & Pacific Islands, where she inspires the next generation of thinkers to unite art, technology & cultural identity in groundbreaking ways.

Today she stands as both innovator & storyteller. Her art is not only a visual experience but a narrative of lineage, discipline, travel & the courage to redefine boundaries. Collectors describe her paintings & sculptures as timeless yet bold, equally at home in private collections or museum spaces.
